Razor Clamming 101: Best Practices

Here are a few quick tips for a successful dig:

  • Know the tides: Razor clamming is best during a minus tide—always check the charts before heading out.

  • Look for “clam shows”: Small holes, dimples, or keyhole shapes in the sand signal where clams are burrowed.

  • Use the right technique: Insert your claminator or shovel at a slight angle and move quickly—razor clams are fast!

  • Be gentle: Broken shells can ruin your catch. Dig carefully to keep clams intact.

Don't Forget...

  • Dress in layers, and don’t skip the rubber boots.

  • Bring a bucket or netted bag (or rent one at Basecamp).

  • Each digger must have their own license and container.

  • Follow the daily limits and WDFW regulations.

See You This Weekend! Clam Fest is a beloved Seabrook tradition that celebrates our coastal lifestyle. Stop into Basecamp at 118 Market Street to get licensed, geared, and ready—or reserve your guided clam digging adventure at Pacific Edge Adventures.
